About Tour de La Porte
The La Porte County Family YMCA is proud to present the Tour de La Porte!
Tour de La Porte is a walking, running, and cycling event that raises money to support the mission of the La Porte County Family YMCA. Every year, our YMCA helps thousands of people lead a happier, healthier lifestyle through programs that promote healthy living, youth development, and social responsibility.
Over the years, the event has grown, and though the mission may have changed – 100% of funds raised continue to be used for to provide direct support to members of our local community.
Our Beginning
Local cyclist Larry Noel rode in several rides across the nation to raise funds for cancer research, but he wanted to make an impact locally. After sharing his thoughts with Maria Fruth, HFL President & CEO, the idea for the Tour de La Porte was born.
The first TDL was held in 2002. At that time, TDL was a cycling event offering a range of distances up to 100 miles. In celebration of the 5th Annual Event in 2006, TDL decided to add a 5-mile walk for those who may not be cyclists. In 2008, TDL replaced the 5-mile walk with a 5K Run/Walk and incorporated timing for this event. As many participants wished to partake in both events, in 2011 TDL became a two-day event! Also in 2011, TDL added a Half Marathon Run in celebration of the 10th year of this amazing event.
In 2019, the Healthcare Foundation of La Porte invited members of La Porte County Family YMCA to join the Tour de La Porte committee to learn more about the inner workings of the event. At the close of the 2019 event, HFL announced that starting in 2020, the Tour de La Porte would be presented by La Porte County Family YMCA. These funds will allow the YMCA to continue to carry out our mission of helping those in our community lead a happier, healthier lifestyle through programs that promote healthy living, youth development, and social responsibility.

Our Impact
In 2022, this event raised nearly $53,000 to support the YMCA’s Mission! We had 638 participants from 16 different states across the country visiting La Porte County for the weekend! This event truly does benefit everyone in our community!

Our Committee
The La Porte County YMCA could not present this event on its own. Thank you to the dedicated committee members who help with every aspect of this event.
